Putting a TL;DR at the bottom!

Yooo, can you believe we've got ten of these things now?! :D I can scarcely imagine I've been on Patreon for nearly a year, but here we are.

And I even managed to make this post before the first half of the month was over! Heh, anyways, let's get into it.

The most important thing I have to tell you guys is that Patreon is making a fairly huge change to how they handle the third party processing fees they deal with on the regular. You can read about it here, but I wanted to explain it myself as well:

https://blog.patreon.com/updating-patreons-fee-structure/

Basically, I've been making about 86-88% of my earnings since I started Patreon. The rest has gone to Patreon or these Processing Fees. So 5% of my earnings is Patreon's cut for using their service, and then 7-9% has been from processing fees, though that can go as high as 15% for creators in other parts of the world.

Now though, Patreon is shifting the processing fees burden from the creator (me) to our patrons (you guys). Instead of me paying 7-9% of my earnings in fees every month, you guys will now be charged 2.9%+$0.35 for each of your pledges.

There's nothing I can do about this unfortunately, though I won't lie, the change is meant to benefit creators such as myself. Whether it actually will or not is still to be determined.

Regardless, Patreon says they sent an email out to all of you today to inform you of these changes. The change itself will be implemented starting Dec. 18th, and given my Patreon is charged monthly, you'll first see the increase in how much you pay on January 1st.

I've already lost a few people over this today, who didn't want to pay the fee. I suspect I might lose a few more, but I want to be completely transparent about this with you all, so you all know it's coming now, even if you missed the email or it got lost in your spam folder.

One way or the other, I'll continue to write for whoever wants to remain my patron, and hopefully everything will remain copacetic moving forward.

As always, thank you so much for your support, each and every one of you. Love ya all for making my dream a reality. =)

TL;DR: Patreon is going to start charging you a small fee on each of your pledges, so that they don't have to take it out of my earnings each month. This is not my choice and not something I can control. If you need to unpledge because of this, I understand. Here's a link to the changes.

The main problem I have with the new pay structure is this; that it's PER transaction. I mean I don't mind if I have to pay more, but it's the fact that I have to pay a lot more if I do multiple small paterons across the board. Creators get a tiny benefit, while the subscribers get hit with penalties, and Patreon gets the MASSIVE benefit. https://www.patreon.com/posts/15758286 So, I don't even know what to say.

Yeah, this is what I've taken away from reading into it too. It's hurting the people who are donating to many in small amounts, and basically punishing the most giving individuals. =/

You seriously lost Patrons over an extra 35 cents?

If they were anything like me they might be supporting 10+ patrons at the $1 level with a few larger donations. It just becomes more efficient to find 1 or 2 Creators one likes and give the $5 donations instead. That way more of their and my money goes to the creators and not to Patreon itself.
