For the Lorde album, I suggest you read the Pitchfork review and re-open your catalogue of late 90s/early 2000s happy/indie folk/naturistic inspired female artists. Without giving my thoughts songs that came to mind for me to listen to were (in no particular order): "I'm Like a Bird" by Nelly Furtado* "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia* "Soak Up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae "Powerless" and "Forca" by Nelly Furtado "Before You" by Chantal Kreviazuk "Everything" by Alanis Morisette "Happy Baby" by Shaye "A New Day Has Come (Radio Mix)" & "Alive" by Céline Dion "Unwritten" & "Pocketful of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield *songs Lorde explicitly referenced as having listened to for inspiration

I get what Oscar is saying, and I agree with it, but I can't help but suspect that the mythology and story of an artist is as much of a driver of their reputation as the work it self. Artists come into and out of fashion in different eras, in accordance with the values of that particular time in history. For example, Vermeer was not particularly appreciated at various points in history, but now is highly venerated.

Ha! I just saw this comment. I also sent you a PM with lookin for your thoughts before seeing this. I was definitely getting the late 90s vibe.
