Hey all,

I just got off the phone with my attorney, Noah Downs, one of the heads of the #opendnd movement. He doesn't believe the MorkBorg strategy is good long-term. I guess I'll have to send back all these doom-metal albums I ordered.

Plus, I met with many of the creators in the same space, talking about keeping 5e alive.

Here's the plan. And I'm sorry that there's a lot of back and forth. But if you've been my Patron long enough, well... you know that's par for the course.

The COOL and the 501(c)3

We are going to continue with the COOL. And that agreement will be held by a non-profit. And it will be 100% irrevocable.

Wish.com D&D 5e, here we come...

I will make an SRD that's going to be about as close to 5e as I can get. GMs roll dice. Classes. Etc. Of course, it'll be a totally new system called Five Elements. But you can call it 5e if you want.

The world will be open, too.

One thing I *know* will set us apart from everyone else is that I will let people actually make shit for the world. Like... not just using the rules. But the world. You can use proper names, cities, whatever. Just, you know... cite the source.

I need your support!

I will need help from all of you and your support so we don't get washed away by all the other people trying to do their own thing. Kobold Press, MCDM, Savage Worlds, etc. are all trying to enter the battle. They're bigger than me. But we're faster and scrappier. And it's not that I think they have bad systems. It's just we don't have time to wait for them to finish.

Thanks y'all, I love you.

I'm tired. Going to go eat some yogurt and listen to metal.

Feel free to yell at me in the comments or on Discord.

Saw a post going around saying wizards is not going forward with the new OGL. If they didn’t go forward would you still change how you do things on principle or would you stick to how things have been going

Flip-flooping is the price of up-to-the-minute information, so its understandable. I'm just here to say I have faith that by the time i'm out of what we will now lovingly at our table refer to as "Dragon Dung" to fuel our current games, there'll be something more hopeful to scoop in. <3 You and everybody in the movement are appreciate greatly.

Sorry i keep chiming in here- one thing that would be -amazing- if it could be managed is a framework for making a class. that's a huge, deep ask, so i get it. but figured i'd put that pair of coppers in the kettle as well. Thanks again.

100% behind you Dave, you gotta do what you've got to do. Happy to support your great content.

I'm not sure if you read Paizo's blog but they're coming up with some kind of open license, not sure if its 5E related or something else but a lot of other major companies like kobold press signed on they said. Might be worth looking into before you go rigging your own similar system.

What Lycilla said, just standby until ORC comes out and join the bigger fish of the TTRPG industry. Perhaps work on a setting.

I'm just curious as to what metal you're listening to

I have a question. You are abandoning endless journeys? In both forms? And is endless journeys the first one under the cool? Or was that just a mockup and it's not licensed?

This is interesting! I was planning to migrate my 5e campaign to Pathfinder, (which had been my only system for ten years before I switched to 5e this year) but I may stick with 5e if it’s YOUR 5e so I can keep supporting you and using your content. I don’t know if I can run a campaign on my own without relying heavily on your drop-in adventures and dungeons 😂

I think before we do anything, we're going to take a step back and wait to see what happens.
