Time to learn more about the Blackleaf Forest. We're now focused in on the Wicked Maple Grove area of the Forest. I created the map through Inkarnate, then used donjon.bin.sh's random name generator to come up with some interesting locations.

  • Addukhim. A hamlet at the northern edge of the Drakecrags.
  • Blackleaf Forest. Named such because of the blackleaf trees that fill it, the Blackleaf Forest is a massive, primordial forest dominating the southeastern portion of the Ninth Kingdom of Enombath.
  • Black Marsh. A large swamp around the Wicked Maple River between the City of Bygrove and the Great Crossroads of Orlyggthorp.
  • Bygrove. The largest city in the region.
  • Centaur Woods. The Centaur Woods is a large swath of forest straddling the land between the two westernmost branches of the Wicked Maple River.
  • Chege March. The Chege March is a stretch of forests and grasslands between the Drakecrags and the Sea of Mena.
  • Drakecrags. A small mountain range to the southwest of the Wicked Maple River.
  • Eltun. A town at the heart of the Wicked Maple Grove.
  • Fangs of Barossu. This branch of the Wicked Maple River joins the main river at Bygrove.
  • Ghostwood Creek. A creek that runs from Wicked Maple River and terminates at ruins.
  • Great Crossroads of Orlyggthorp. Aptly named because of the five way intersection in the center of it, the Crossroads is at the eastern fringe of the Chege March.
  • Heaminster. At the base of the Drakecrag's foothills lies Heaminster, a small village.
  • Nightmoor Stronghold. A large fortress to the east of the main road between Bygrove and the Great Crossroads.
  • Orcmoor Mire. This large swamp is home to the Ruined Tower of Gothmog of Udun.
  • Ruined Tower of Gothmog of Udun. An abandoned tower in the middle of Orcmoor Mire.
  • Wicked Maple River. The grove takes its name from the larger river that cascades down from the Drakecrags into the Sea of Mena.

The name of Heaminster could offer some worldbuilding material: why has a small village been honored with the title of "minster", which traditionally indicates a significant church (like Westminster Abbey). There could lie a tale in there...

I had an idea on the Great Crossroads of Orlyggthrop. It could be a mainly merchant-run town, people come and go as they please, it is huge in delivering, trading, and handling goods. There could be some sort of event that happens every other month (I believe that is bi-monthly?) Which attracts many businesses large and small. One part that could be debated is whether or not there is a strong presence from the Ninth Kingdom. Considering it would most likely be guild-run it would be interesting to see how that relationship would fit together.

Yeah! Perhaps that’s where the uprising from the guilds comes from too
