Tecuani Playable Race for Fifth Edition (Patreon)
Content
The tecuani people prize strength above all other attributes and their chieftains are always the strongest and most able-bodied of the tribe. These leaders remain in power until a new, younger, and stronger tecuani challenges and bests him or her in single combat which often leads to death. Those tecuani born weak or slow are often euthanized by their parents at a very young age; failure to do so is a crime, punishable by exile or death.
On rare occasions, a tecuani may be born with an unusual attribute such as a strange pattern in its fur, extra toes, or horns. The tecuani fear these children and mark them as brujos, or “witches”. The tecuani brujos grow up to become powerful sorcerers and omen-readers who operate on the outskirts of the tribe. Chieftains often seek the advice of the tribe’s brujos, especially in dire times.
Tecuani Traits
Your tecuani has certain traits common with all tecuani.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Age. Tecuani mature faster than humanoids, reaching adulthood around age 15. Their lifespans are 80-90 years.
Alignment. Tecuani have no real preference towards good or evil. Those that grow up within a tribe are usually lawful. And those raised in other environments may become neutral or even chaotic.
Size. Tecuani are bulky, feline humanoids, standing 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. Tecuani are nocturnal creatures and their eyesight has adjusted to these conditions accordingly. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.
Natural Weapons. You were born with sharp teeth and claws. You can use both to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your claws, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier. And if you hit with your bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier. These attacks are in place of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet.
Pounce. You have a natural instinct for running down opponents. When you move 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hit it with a claw attack, the target must succeed on a Strength save with a DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier or be knocked prone. If the target is knocked prone, you can make one bite attack against that creature as a bonus action.
Born Athletes. You have proficiency in the Athletics skill.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Tecuani.
