A Special THANK YOU to Don Pettit and the folks at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory for accepting the idea of me reliving a training event that I remembered from 15 years ago.

Also, thanks to Gordo for helping me line all this up. We couldn't have done it without you bro.

Watching that stressed me out.

HAHAHAHAHA! Destin, you are a happy, drunk little hypoxic dude --- so am I! That makes it even harder to get your mask on, because although you know better, it's so FUN -- until it's NOT. Reminded me of my first hypobaric chamber "ride" in San Antonio for flight surgeon training; my "hilarious" classmates made sure to load up on bean burritos the night before and took full advantage of Boyle's Law.

Thanks for the demo, Destin. I'll do anything I can to keep from flying, but I'm sure to remember you and Susan every time I am forced to get on a plane. (Oh, wait, no. I'll be one of the people who will need help because the anti-anxiety drugs will probably make me fall asleep. Still an excellent video!)

It would be extremely cool to have airlines show this video during the pre-flight briefing, i feel like it would help get the message across better than a simple verbal instructions.

GET SMARTER SECTION links don't work. Thanks for the video.

That was pretty intense and a little scary. Good philosophical metaphor too!

Overconfidence is another common feeling with hypoxia, here is a pilot experiencing it while flying: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IqWal_EmBg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IqWal_EmBg</a> and someone else going through a similar test as Destin: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcvkjfG4A_M" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcvkjfG4A_M</a>

very cool... Destin and Don Petit... two of my favorite people!!! glad you didn't die bro.

Very powerful Destin, crazy how suddenly your control of the situation flicks off.

Hi Destin, could you make a second video where you commentate over the video explaining exactly how you felt as you were going through the hypoxia? What was going through your mind? Did you feel in control or were you aware that you were losing it? Did you feel scared or euphoric? I'd love to hear more about this fascinating subject.

I dont wanna die?

That, is scary! Thanks for sharing that with us.

Neat video and experience. Destin, immediately after the oxygen was restored, were you aware of having had difficulties with the block sorting exercise and the confusion about the oxygen controls? I'm curious how your memory was affected.
