First of all, I hope you and your friends and family are safe, and taking measures to minimize contact with other people at this time.  

Secondly, thank you for supporting Smarter Every Day on Patreon.  I've been working on this series for a while, and it became very clear that certain organizations were using the Pandemic as an opportunity to kick us while we're down through clever trolling and disinformation.  I decided to roll that message into the video, and I'm very happy with the results.  Thank you for letting me explore some rather difficult topics without worrying about the YouTube Algorithm. 

Secondly, I find it interesting that the social media manipulation series are among my most down-voted videos of all time.  I wonder what's going on there.... 😏 

I see these videos as some of the most important content I've ever made.  If the general internet population can understand the principals presented in these videos, we will progress in unity.   

This series is my attempt to shore up society's defenses against the massive disinformation war currently being waged against us. We're on the battlefield whether we like it or not.

Great video as always. Your comment of starting out thinking everyone is a nice person is what I was taught about respect. People don't earn my respect. They get it from the beginning. What they can earn is my disrespect when they do something they shouldn't do.

Awesome series, Destin. No doubt this will have at least some positive impact on the interworld. As a moderator on XDA-Developers I really recognized the graph. When we deal with trolling - probably not Russians though - in one of our many device related threads, we also see that conversation quickly moves away from technology and personal attacks increase greatly. A single post can indeed derail an entire conversation. Luckily we have a strong team of moderators that is present 24/7 to handle reports and patrol the boards so action is usually taken swiftly. We simply remove the culprit post and all responses to it, then put up a notification the thread has been cleaned. 90% of times this works to get the conversation back on the topic at hand.

This is the video that got me to provide my first Patreon support ever. This is the great work from every perspective: well researched, informative graphics, compelling interviews, tight editing, well-thought-out storyline, and infectiously enthusiastic host. Am particularly impressed with the level of video production you've achieved for your channel. It isn't over-the-top (good thing), but is just right to help tell the story well. Graphs and animations which bring the data to life are so important, but not everyone does them, and even fewer do them well. Destin, you are doing great on both counts, with the discipline to keep doing it *well* for each of your videos. Now I'll have to go back and watch the rest of the series on disinformation!

Can this troll software work in live chat , I just was in a chat of a Sunday night Class. An close to the end one at a time (3) different black and white Avatar did a provoking one small line sentence. I thought of your videos .But some of the people acted towards it as if it was a person. It happened at the end.. I’m going to email them with your web address ,they can teach the students.
