EMERGENCY PATCH NOTICE:
This update was uploaded with a serious mistake that caused textures to not load at all on the 4K version. This has now been fixed with patch 1.1.3a (a simple renaming mistake of one of the folders) and if you couldn't get the textures to work previously, they should now load properly. I apologize for this inconvenience!
Hello all Patrons! 👋
This is a minor update to Zelda: Twilight Princess 4K and focuses on improving the user experience, with many convenient new features and changes! This version includes no new textures, so you don't need to transfer your save file over to this version just for that. A major update with many new textures is planned for later and much more, so stay tuned for that! With that being said, here's what's new:
Easy Wii/GameCube version selection
This is something that's been on my to-do list for months now, and I just never got around to doing it. Better late than never, right?... No, seriously. This is actually a really convenient change if you want to play the Wii version of Twilight Princess 4K instead of the GameCube version, and it also lets you switch between which version you want to play. Simply double click the corresponding file in the "Enable Wii Version" folder and the script will do the rest of the work for you. It's that simple! Before you had to manually rename folders and move things around, but now all that's completely automated. If you haven't tried the Wii version earlier, now's a better time than ever!
Better macOS compatibility + installation instructions
This is another thing that's been bothering users and myself for quite a while. Before, there were no instructions provided at all for Mac users. And to all of you, I truly apologize for that! I hope to make up for the absence of instructions previously with this update. Now, there's a folder included inside the texture pack called "macOS Instructions". It's got everything you need! It even includes the installer for Dolphin, so you don't need to go to a separate site to get things going. Just install Dolphin using the provided installer, copy the "User" folder inside the texture pack directory to your Dolphin directory (exact location is inside the text document in the instructions folder) and you should be good to go! All the settings in the emulator should be set up to be optimal by default. Enjoy!
Updated Ishiiruka Dolphin for improved performance
The Ishiiruka Dolphin build used in the post processing version previously was quite old and lacked some nice features the most recent build has. So, I've updated it to the latest version! This should come with slightly improved performance and reduced stuttering as well!
New Controller Config for the Wii version
Strangely enough, there never existed a default preset for the Wii version of Twilight Princess 4K until now. So, that's been fixed! You can now enjoy the Wii version using a regular gamepad like the Xbox One, PS4/PS5 or Switch Pro controllers with minimal setup required on your side. Feel free to try it out!
Fixed oversights and bugs
I can't list all of the minor changes and tweaks I've made here, but it ranges from tweaking controller layouts to remaking cheat codes from the ground up so they don't bug the game in certain locations. This also include some mismatched default settings which has plagued 1080p version users for weeks- going unnoticed since I thought it was an emulator bug for the longest time. Either way, things should just work a little smoother now!
There are two versions of the texture pack you get to select once you've downloaded it. One is the "Post Processing Edition", which includes all the post processing effects showcased in the trailer like ambient occlusion, tone mapping, bloom and more. The other version is the "Standard Edition" which doesn't include these features but has some other benefits instead.
The Post Processing Edition utilizes Ishiiruka Dolphin to achieve these features, and has some graphical features implemented not available in regular Dolphin at all. It also requires Windows 7 or higher (not compatible with MacOS or Linux) and a dedicated graphics card. Both editions include a controller preset for common gamepads like the Xbox One controller! The standard edition version alleviates some minor Dolphin bugs present in Ishiiruka Dolphin (increased stability, for example) and supports MacOS & Linux, too! But does not support any of the additional graphical features listed above, like material maps or ambient occlusion. Both versions look stunning so if you're uncertain I recommend you play the standard version- or try out both and see which one you prefer! The screenshots above are taken using the post-processing edition, a comparison might be coming shortly! *wink*
Enjoy!
Oh, and check out the trailer as well if you haven't already!
This update, 1.1.3, is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published (in 1080p)!
There is also a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it! Please feel free to try it out!
Notice: The 4K version will always look better than the 1080p version, even if you don't have a 4K display. This is because the textures are physically larger and contain more detail!
(Only available for the Ishiiruka Dolphin Emulator on PC or mobile (Android/iOS), the texture pack does not work on real Wii or Wii U consoles).
Read more information about the texture pack on my website!
Updating from an older version is super simple:
Just copy & paste the "GC" and "Wii" folders inside the "User" folder in the texture pack directory over to the new version's User folder and it should work straight away!
