Happy New Year, all Patrons! 🎆

This is a small but important update for Zelda: Skyward Sword 4K which brings improved controls, fixes the glitched reflections present in previous releases, dungeon texture updates and more!

The gamepad controls have been improved even further thanks to help from GRECCO on Discord!

They've refined the controls further to make flying and Minecart-riding a much more enjoyable experience when playing using a regular gamepad. Now, you simply press RB to tilt to the right, and press the LT to tilt to the left. This means you no longer need to fiddle with the right joystick carefully when flying- it's so much better than before!

The awful reflection / shadow issue has been permanently fixed!

This was caused by a broken low-resolution texture which was supposed to tell the game at which brightness to display reflections. It's now restored to it's regular glory!

Something which I forgot to say in the controller tutorial video was how to do a spin-attack:

To do a spin attack, press RB + RT + LS (the left stick button) all at the same time. This is a bit tricky, but definitely doable and really powerful! Of course, this action is never required to beat the game so don't feel forced to remember the button combination.

There are two versions of the texture pack you get to select once you've downloaded it. One is the "Post Processing Edition", which includes all the post processing effects showcased in the trailer like ambient occlusion, tone mapping, bloom and more. The other version is the "Standard Edition" which doesn't include these features but has some other benefits instead.

The Post Processing Edition utilizes Ishiiruka Dolphin to achieve these features, which unfortunately means gamepad/ wiimotion plus emulation is not possible in this version- you must use a REAL wiiremote & nunchuck combo using an external device like the Dolphin Bar. It also requires Windows 7 or higher and a dedicated graphics card. The standard edition includes a controller preset for common gamepads like the Xbox One controller, which means you can play the game without using a real wiiremote & nunchuck! This version also alleviates some minor Dolphin bugs present in Ishiiruka Dolphin and support MacOS & Linux, too! Both versions look stunning so if you're uncertain I recommend you play the standard version- you won't miss out on anything big!

I made a short video on how to play using only a normal controller. Watch it here!

Enjoy!

This update, 1.0.2, is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published (in 1080p)!

There is also a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it! Please feel free to try it out!

Notice: The 4K version will look better than the 1080p version, even if you don't have a 4K display. This is because the 4K version has physically larger textures with more detail!

(Only available for the Dolphin Emulator on PC or mobile (Android/iOS), the texture pack does not work on real Wii or Wii U consoles).

You can find more information about my HD texture pack here.

Read more information about the texture pack on my website!

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

Thanks for the update. I was about to try this pack but was wondering what the main difference is between this pack and skyward sword remastered? I plan to play at 4k if that makes any difference

This texture pack is completely separate and was made after Skyward Sword Remastered. This one includes more than three times as many 4K textures (covering much more of the game in all areas) and is higher resolution, and also includes several other convenient features like emulated WiiMotion Plus for use with regular gamepad controllers, ambient occlusion, custom tone mapping, tesselation and more!

Will the texture pack not look good on "rev 1" or "rev 2" versions of the game (due to dof-disabler not working) or is it just that this one feature won't work on those? Thanks!

Is there a preferred backend for the Ishiiruka dolphin version?

Every time I try to slash my sword using the new configs (playing w/ DS4 controller) it always slices diagonally, and then immediately stabs afterward. Is there any way to fix this?

THIS is really cool and sharp. EXCEPT still the distance blur still persists and is sooo annoying. i wanna be able to see farther without seeing the nasty blur everything in 4k running great cool. but how to delete blur? i tried the gecko work arounds with no luck - Guess the standard version isnt capable of performing those fixes?

You need to use either Revision 0 or Revision 2 of the North American version (NTSC) of the game, or Revision 1 of the European version for the depth of field removal codes to work properly! You can check which version you're using in the Properties (right click in the games list in Dolphin) then in the "Info" tab it should say which revision you're using in the name, or in the "Revision" slot if you're using the Post-Processing Edition.

The issue seems to be caused by the game registering multiple "Slash" inputs directly after each other. I'm releasing an updated controller scheme + new tutorial video early next week, which should completely fix these issues! In the meanwhile, you can circumvent them by using very quick presses on the "Slash-button" (RT), and using the right stick to direct the sword in the direction of the slash. If you need more help, please don't hesitate getting in touch with me on Discord or in a DM here on Patreon!
