There you have it! The betrayal Gilgamesh has been expecting and working for all this time has finally happened, but it doesn't make it easy to witness XD I actually feel bad for Tokiomi! At least he got some sort of closure with Rin :/

One thing the show does not make clear is that you don't always have to kill your Servant to make a wish. The Grail's original purpose was to reach the Root and as explained in this episode, to do that you need all the Servants to die. However you can still make a different wish, one that doesn't require all 7 Servants dead. The Servants' deaths fill the Grail with mana/energy required to grant the wish, so the bigger the wish the more mana it needs. Reaching the Root is the bigest wish, so it requires to kill all the Servants, but different wishes may be granted after 6 or even 5 Servants are dead. In this war only Tokiomi wanted to reach the Root, so other masters would not need to sacrifice their Servants.

Not really sure about this. I don't think reaching the root is the only wish required to kill all 7 servants. I agree with what you said though, the bigger the wish the more mana it needs.
