And this marks the end of the fight and a victory for our guys!! YEAH!!! Subaru totally deserves the title of hero here! He's earned Crusch and Wilhelm's respect n.n let's go man! Now you've got the cult to face ;)

About Wilhelm, he actually never could quite tell his wife he loves her directly with words, only showing it with actions (hence the last sequence with her). That was why his final moments with the whale were especially meaningful. He goes from "watashi wa..." in japanese (can be used by older people to say "I") to "ore wa..." (used only by younger people) before saying "love you", which is him making up for all that time he hasn't told her in his youth. It's one of those neat details that get lost in translation. And the Witch does indeed get closer the more he dies or reveals his secret, as you noticed... look forward to season 2 for more on that. :) I love the Whale arc, I don't think it's the strongest point of Re:Zero, but it's a nice modern retelling of Moby Dick (the author loves western literature, he puts a lot of references to literature heroes like detective Poirot etc in later arcs as well) with Wilhelm at the center.

There are two prequel novels on Wilhelm and Theresia called Re:Zero EX 2 and 3, if you're interested in their story! :) It's like a spin-off in the universe before Subaru's arrival.
