March 8th Weekly Update (Patreon)
Content
I tried to stay busy this week, although I did take a little time for Super Tuesday.
Starting with feedback from the build. I tried to make as many adjustments based on the feedback that I got as I could.
Meridiana will now stay in stealth after she teleports. This actually was annoying me a bit so when someone brought it up, I just stopped right there and fixed it.
Someone asked for the ability to save at checkpoints and return to them later. I added that for now. If you restart from checkpoint, it will restart the game from that checkpoint, and if you restart the level, it will restart from the beginning. It will also save out your last checkpoint if you want to come back to the game later.
I want to make some changes to the way the time stop spell works, so I wanted some individualized effects for it. I went with a glitched out effect, and I think it fits!
I had made my own barrel a long while ago. I brought that barrel back in, with some updates to the textures to make it look a little more stylized. Its probably still a bit too detailed, but I think it works well enough. I also built out debris for it, as you can see in the video above, it explodes fairly well.
You can also see it here: https://twitter.com/i/status/1234739150148055041
I also corrected a bug where Meridiana would sometimes get up before she had completely fallen down.
Finally, as seen in the video above I implemented a spell to make enemies visible through walls. Most stealth adventure games have something like this, so I felt it was needed.
After using it a bit, I'm feeling like it needs its own dedicated button, as its too useful to have to cast over and over again. (I'm thinking mouse wheel pressed and right joystick pressed in)
I'm still not sure on duration or, how often you can use it. Will it cost magic to cast? If you have opinions on it, please share them. Also right now it doesn't darken the background, but maybe it should?
Lemme know how you feel about that sort of thing.
This is all the stuff I want to show, but unrelated check out this video of Unreal Engine 4.25 doing fluid simulations. https://twitter.com/Vuthric/status/1235659057995739136?s=20
Wonder if that will be useful for anything....
