Do not watch this with your parents unless you want to be scarred for life. I had heard a lot about this movie. I knew nothing specific, only that the movie was very frisky to say the least. I was curious to watch it and see for myself what all the hype was about and if the movie was good on its own merits or only because of its shocking nature.

Well, I am happy to say that Saltburn is a great movie on its own and also contains moments that shocked me and disturbed me to my core. There was actually a moment in the film where I had to get out of my chair and walk around for a second because what was happening on screen was just so aifadhjbfdsjbkjabkjfk (that's how I thought best to express that emotion). Safe to say, I can understand why people gravitated to the movie. Besides these 3-4 shocking moments however, the movie does bring along a fairly good show. The cinematography is outstanding and gorgeous. It looks so clean and well thought out and the use of natural lighting most of the time give the movie this authentic and sometimes retro feel. The directing is also superb and the playfulness the director utilizes between wide and close up shots creates a tension, usually sexual, that becomes as thick as soup. I swear there were times where I could SEE the emotion of horny emanating from Oliver. Oh, that's another thing... that main character is called Oliver which is a yikes. Anyways, the music is also great with this beautiful and dramatic choir singing their hearts out in the background during big moments and soft heartbeat like thuds in the quieter more intimate and thrilling moments. I won't say anything else about the movie besides if you haven't seen it, try to go in blind and be prepared to be at least a little disgusted. I had a good time overall though!!

Red Dwarf

Might be a good movie, but I am passing on this one lol

Al Nazemian

One of the most engrossing (and beautiful and disgusting) movies of last year. I loved it. It reminded me of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow). The cinematography is amazing. The mixture of comedy and horror is great. Barry Keoghan as Oliver (!) gave an incredible performance and Jacob Elordi and Rosamund Pike were standouts for me. Great review, Ollie! I agree with your thoughts on the film. I also got more out of it on second viewing, Jonathan. Flawed, but one of my favorite films of 2023.
