A January Patreon Exclusive here and what a fun movie this was! Just two old men bickering the whole runtime with the addition of a woman they both really like thrown in. The old men bickering was obviously my favourite part and the amount of great insults I got from this movie was worth the watch alone. I will actively try to call people Putz more often because what a fun word to say. Besides that, I thought that Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau played their roles as the grumpy old men very well. There was a nice soft subtly to their performances where you could feel a lingering history between the two characters mixed between them calling each other morons. Speaking of which, the movie also had a nice little bit of heart sprinkled into the comedy. The final 15 minutes were great and gave me many ups and downs which felt earned. I also really enjoyed Ariel as a character and I loved how much she contrasted the bleak old men with her vibrant personality. She radiated warmth and love every time she was on screen (except for maybe at the start because I thought she was a crazy person for a second) and I really liked how she was the catalyst for these two old guys to finally start to break down the walls that had formed between them. My biggest take away from the movie though... ice fishing. I now want to ice fish in a little hut on a frozen lake in Minnesota. Would be epic.

Lemmon and Matthau have made a ton of movies together. Most famously the original Odd Couple that spawned multiple tv series and inspired many takeoffs.

After Grumpy Old Men 2, you should try out My Fellow Americans. Similar concept, except it's two retired Presidents on an adventure.
