I was looking at your blurred image and it seems you were not seeing the subtitles of the aliens talking in which case you missed a lot, which if so makes your version very strange. Don't take me wrong, I didn't have subtitles on and never do but I still see the subtitles for just when the aliens are speaking.

Yeah there were no alien subtitles at all I thought it was a creative choice but I guess not?? Didn't ruin the movie for me though as I could usually tell what they were saying-ish through their actions and context
