Not a movie that has really been recommended to me but just a movie I have always wanted to watch so I thought I would treat myself. It was everything I expected with a nice added touch of a father son bond sprinkled in for emotions sake. While being fairly predictable at times and nothing groundbreaking, the movie has much more heart than I imagined it would and it looks fantastic. The fights between the giant robots are so entertaining and I especially loved not only how different every robot fighter looked, but how easy it was to understand what was happening in a fight. One of my biggest issues with the Transformer movies for instance, is that sometimes the fights just look like blobs fighting each other. This movie manages to find a great balance between intricate CGI robots and easy to discern fight scenes that make for some very entertaining moments. The heart of this movie lies with Max and Charlie and their son/father relationship. While again, it is nothing groundbreaking, it provides some great bonding moments and nice character dynamics which kept me invested in everything outside of the giant robot fights as well. I also found it interesting that this movie was set probably around 2020's which meant that the filmmakers thought that this giant robot fighting league could be an actual thing in just 9 years. Overall, a really fun movie and one I am glad I finally watched!
