I'm so glad you watched this! I read the book before the movie was made, and I must say the book is better, but I think they did a great job with the adaptation. The author, Carl Sagan, was one of the most influential scientists of his time. He was involved with the missions of the Voyager spacecrafts, and with the SETI project. More than most other science-fiction movies, the ideas throughout this story are based on either science facts or valid scientific conjecture and theory. Sagan's tv series "Cosmos" from the 80s was the inspiration for a whole new generation of scientists and scientific exploration.

I knew back years and years ago when you started your channel and said how much you loved "The Abyss" that you'd really love this one! It's so well made and a great story... And the sound track puts it over the top with emotion... I always thought if you took Silvestri's score from this and swapped it with his score from Forrest Gump they'd both end up just as good. Even the theme songs are nearly identical. (Also that altered clip of Pres Clinton reminded me of the history clips in Gump - I guess they were don'e the same way) Anyway great movie and you're right ...this was the ultimate Zemeckis period from BTTF to this one. Great reaction! And can't wait to see Silence Of The Lambs where Jodie gets called a "clever girl" again by another creepy British guy LOL

Cool tidbit about "clever girl," unless it was from the book I wander if it was included as a homage to Silence which came out earlier?
