Another one of the Godfathers of found footage horror, one which I feel revitalized the genre after the years of The Blair Witch Project. Really cool how the movie is set up to feel like a real event with the film thanking the police department. It then goes on to use the actors real names as the characters names and then has zero credits which makes the whole thing feel very believable. The found footage aspect is also really well done with some great interaction of handheld cam and tripod stable cam. It is especially nice to see that the stable cam shots were where most of the scares were making them even more terrifying because you could actually see what was scary.

Overall a fun, albeit a little tedious at times, movie and I can see why it revitalized a whole genre of horror!

Be Mindful

Found footage is one of my favourite genres and Paranormal Activity is one of the pioneers. I consider 'The Blair Witch Project' to be the trendsetter which gave me genuine chills and food for thought during and after the watch. I agree that it is a slow burn, but at that time it was a breath of fresh air among numerous horror flicks that banked on gore and the usual tropes. Sadly the hype surrounding found footage didn't spawn many likewise movies of a high quality, but there are a few good ones out there.

Yeah Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch definitely feel like influential movies within the found footage genre! It is very cool also to see how small of a budget you need to make such a big success as Paranormal Activity
