The character Vash was first seen in Season 3 Episode 19 "Captain's Holiday." Ensign Ro does stick around until the end of the series. She also makes an appearance in Season 3 of "Star Trek: Picard." As for the Bajorans and Cardassians, DS9 is practically centered around these two species so you won't be disappointed.

This was the introduction of the Bajorans. Ro was supposed to be a main character on DS9 so she appears in multiple season 5 episodes however the actress didn’t want to commit long term and resigned. The Federation/Cardassian/Bajoran relationship is a key part of DS9. Glad you got to try a fun TNG episode, while none are top 10 they are still enjoyable. Q and Vash pop up on DS9 as well.
