Harrison Ford decided to wear a beard in this movie, because he felt it suited the character. The studio objected when he reported to set, saying "we paid for your face, not a beard." He compromised by wearing it for part of the movie, and they added a scene where he shaves it off. (Ford told the story on the DVD.)
