Some believe that the "blond lab tech" that Gary steered Kirk into dating was Carol Marcus from Wrath of Khan.

A little bit of trivia for you: the blonde yeoman (she brought Sulu lunch in the arboretum) with the beehive hairdo was named Janice Rand. She was only on the show for the first half of season 1, then the actress left. She returned in The Motion Picture as transporter chief, then you saw her briefly in Star Trek III and IV, then finally in VI as Sulu's communications officer on the Excelsior.
