Great reaction, Ollie, and a very interesting interpretation of the deeper meaning. For its time, this movie impressed and startled audiences with its stylish camera work, effective sound editing, and disturbing score. I agree with your analysis of the role of women in society, how those in power use women for their own evil purposes. Mia Farrow was nominated for many awards, and Ruth Gordon won quite a few. I like this movie because it's frightening and horrifying without resorting to the cliches of jump-scares and gore that later horror films do. When I was young, there were three films that were a kind of "trilogy" (though not really) of stylish, disturbing horror stories that affected basically middle-class or upper-class white characters: "Rosemary's Baby" (1968); "The Exorcist" (1973); and "The Omen" (1976). I think each one built on themes and feelings from the one before. And I have to say, my favorite parts of this reactions were watching you cringe at the needles going into her arm. I shouldn't be laughing out loud during this movie, but you had me there. Again, great job on this; I continue to love your genuine and thoughtful reactions!

Very good! I also appreciate your interpretation of the story on how women are pressured to conform to societal norms: I have never thought of this film like that before, so you have an interesting perspective. Different people with varying backgrounds and life experiences will notice different things in a story, and so various interpretations should be expected. The reasons that you gave for your interpretation were based on specific things that you noticed in the story: As long as you do that, you will have credible interpretations of what you watch, and you will never be wildly off-base. I, for one, like hearing what you think about a story after you finish watching it.
