Glad you enjoyed it! Keep in mind a lot of the film’s charm comes from its fish out of water setup. Nimoy had a mission for this movie: lighten it up. He wanted no phasers, no villains. It became the highest grossing Trek film until JJ’s Trek films! Crazy huh???

Ok so fair warning about Star Trek 5: it is considered the worst of the 6 films. It’s a film plagued by production problems: a writers strike and a film transportation workers strike. Worst of all the special effects were handled by a company that could not produce the effects of the caliber that ILM (ST2-4) and Douglas Trumbull (TMP) we’re able to produce. And because of that they couldn’t even film the ending. But it still has a lot of beautiful moments. Much of it was shot on location and there’s a cool new room in the Enterprise (Forward Lounge) and there are some fun YouTube videos out there by special effects enthusiasts who have created shots as they were storyboarded and intended to be seen. Oh and the music by Jerry Goldsmithis top notch and considered one of the best scores of the franchise!!!
