Your Letterboxd review of Red Dawn was so cryptic I ordered a 2 DVD of the 1984 version with the remake for $5, just to see what you meant. The movie really didn’t hold my attention and I didn’t know how to put it into words and your review said it all for me. If Red Dawn left you hungry I think you’d find satisfaction in Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. Also I look forward to your take on Natural Born Killers in comparison to this review. Unrelated to Red Dawn’s story is you can look forward to more Basil Poledouris’ work in John Waters’ Serial Mom and Cecil B Demented.But not until you watch Waters’ Cry-Baby starring Johnny Depp. But that will all happen in good time.

So no one is ever going to confuse Red Dawn with picture of the year but its a great popcorn movie and a period piece. I mean Its Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey 3 years before Dirty Dancing. Lea Thompson 2 years before Back To The Future. and throw in Charlie Sheen. BTW C Thomas Howell who is also in this picture was also with Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayze in The OutSiders directed by Francis ford Coppola now thats a serious good movie not just a popcorn flick The director John Milius was the writer director of Conan the Barbarian, He also wrote Apocalypse Now but it was rewritten by Francis Ford Coppola. He also wrote a bunch more movies. Good reaction. Its just an interesting movie because of its iconic cast. The movie was quite controversial when it came out my old VHS movie box shows the Russians outside McDonalds but that scene must have been cut out as I never saw it. Cheers
