I think the reason The Birds often gets more love than some of the better Hitchcock movies is that (at least for me through the 70s) it was really the only one that got constant TV airplay. The only other AH film I even knew about growing up was Psycho, but that was never on TV even close to the frequency of The Birds. I do think it stood out tho in horror because pretty much everything else he did was more mystery than real horror... Even Psycho you could call "psychological horror" because in the end it was just a murder mystery and the evil was human and stoppable. This was different.. We don't know why it happened...and have no idea if it stopped. That's total irrational unsettling horror.. and nobody was doing that at the time.

Yeah I loved that mystery aspect of the film! Being unsure as to what is happening and why it is happening made for some extremely tense moments!
