Species 1995, Poltergeist 1982 and Andromeda Strain 1971 which not only holds up well but is surprisingly topical.

"Misery" and "The Silence Of The Lambs" both have beyond incredible acting and are great suspenseful movies. "Jeepers Creepers" (the first one) was surprisingly really scary. I think it borrowed a bit from an old 70s suspense movie "Duel" which you would love some time but it adds more monster stuff. BTW - The Blob from 1958 is a must see in your lifetime. lol it's a great cheesy classic and has the single greatest intro music in the history of horror films.
