i'm a bit late on this but high school dxd season 2 aka high school dxd new technically focus more on 1 more faction that wasn't highlighted much in season 1. and be prepared to be open minded & not take things seriously of what happened in season 2 later. hope you compile the reaction of the 2 OVAs before starting season 2

Basically Riser's victory was not the overwhelming one-sided victory he (and Ravel) seemed to be of the opinion that it was - at least not to most of the rest of the demon world, and that includes the rest of the Phenex family. Despite the numbers and experience advantage, Rias' family pushed Riser's to its limits, using underhanded methods to force Rias to resign. While nobody officially has any complaints about his victory or how he obtained it, nobody besides Riser and Ravel see it as the crowning achievement like they do. And that's the big reason why these events take place in this episode - Sirzechs isn't going to allow Riser to marry Rias at this point, and the Phenex family is willing to acquiesce as well, because they too are quite embarrassed by Riser's behavior.
