I believe the whole theft thing was a big thing because in Japan its a very serious crime, like she couldve put her whole family in a bad situation type bad, keep in mind this is just me saying what others have said elsewhere. Its funny cause where I live you just get kicked out the store if you get caught stealing

the school couldnt punish sakayanagi about ichinoses rumor cuz she was basically saying the truth. and the other rumors were cuz of koji not her so the school had no way of knowing it was sakayanagi for those. and in getting the school involved basically saved ichinose wich is what koji wanted as a result of the things he did.
