I have tried very hard but the end of last season and the start of this one has made Aoi’s character really unlikable and hard to watch. I’m hoping there’s some serious character development cause I do like a lot of what this show is doing outside of her.

I read the light novel and there is a volume that is like an spin off showing Aoi's backstory (vol 6.5). It kinda helps to understand why she's like this and after that in the following volumes her character changes a bit (kinda???) but that's it. I don't dislike her but is really annoying that she's the main girl lol Minami best girl for me.

This going to be a very unpopular opinion but your reaction to this episode really annoyed me because a lot of people nowadays think this way and it's the absolute dumbest way to deal with conflict. It starts with calling Aoi a psychopath/sociopath when what she said about not directly standing up to Konno (the suggestion Tomozaki made) and Hirabayashi needing to solve the problem herself when the conflict is still at a manageable stage is absolutely 100% the correct answer. What they could have done was provide moral support and talk to Hirabayashi, maybe helping her come up with a way to stand up FOR HERSELF if necessary. That has two reasons: 1. Hirabayashi has to learn to deal with conflict herself anyway. It's going to be a constant in the future and not being able to deal with adversity is a real problem. If you solve the problem for her she's not going to learn that. 2. If you give her moral support while the situation is still manageable (getting your pencil case knocked down isn't really that big of a deal, especially if you have a social support system) you might not even have to do anything directly and it will eventually die down and if it escalates and Hirabayashi does have to stand up for herself, her being the one doing it actually gives it a chance of working. If however, someone else steps in it WILL ALWAYS escalate. And that is why what Tama ended up doing backfired so hard. If the goal is to resolve conflict, then she was wrong. Also, Aoi ended up saying she would so something not necessarily because it tama was her friend (that might have played some role but everybody, including you, does that). The main reason for her to do something now was because it was starting to escalate. The situation became less and less manageable to be delt with in a more simple manner. Also, all the solutions, like talking shit and riling her up are also the dumbest things that you can do in that situation. I know you were probably at least partially joking about it but so many people nowadays think this way when it comes to interpersonal conflict and it's really bad.
