Noticing Frieren’s facial expressions change throughout her life since Fern and Stark have been a part of it is a nice touch. She’s always smirking or being silly with those two vs how she was with the main hero party.

i think that was him playing the role of his senile old man messing around with Frieren to see if she still remembers what shes done even after such a long time which is why she stopped halfway realizing he was just messing with her and saying that she will carry his memories into the future instead. Also could be your reason and she didn't tell him because it would of ruined his memory of his wife in some way if he was protecting a village that no longer needed him as the Demon King is dead.

This show reminds me of Majo no Tabitabi, but the MC isn't an unfeeling weirdo who just likes to watch people's messed lives unfold before her. Unlike Elaina, Frieren is trying to be a part of peoples lives. Trying to be a person they can rely on. She's trying to keep them alive in the world after they've passed on. I love Frieren. Elaina... not so much. Really, the thing that reminds me of Majo no Tabitabi the most is the format. The whole two tales per episode thing is great and I love to see it where it fits.
