It was shown quite clearly, he evaded Words of Obliteration by dispersing into particles, and then reconstituted himself back together after the Words wore out after they did their processing as intended. Since the Words of Obliteration render Matter, Phenomena & Souls to their base state (i.e mana), it would normally kill pretty much anyone, but since Valacirca already dispersed himself into mana particles, he was already at the most base level you can be, so the Words of Obliteration couldn't go any further than that. Humans as Will pointed out CAN'T survive in this disembodied particle state, but an immortal dragon like Valacirca can because he can reconstitute himself after dispersing to such base level of existence by using the Words of Transformation, which are quite obvious as to what they do, i.e transforms matter into another form etc
