They explained earlier in the episode why they stabbed themselves and dived, the creepy old lady gave a history lesson, did you block that entire 3 minutes out? Basically the castle was invaded and the Men were going to kill the women and mount their heads to demoralize the Army that was away by having their wives, daughters, sisters, and mothers heads be decapitated, so instead the women rather than be taken killed themselves and throw themselves off the cliff.
