So I'm going to do two comment one for each episode because the power in my area keeps going out so I might lose my typing progress. There is some subtext for this arc I'm not sure you picked up on? Remember the story of the Benchwarmer and the Athlete from Irisu in the Movie Arc? Well in this series Satoshi is being framed as the Benchwarmer to Oreki and Mayaka behind Kochi who is behind Anju. Remember how Satoshi is a massive Sherlock Fan while Oreki just sometimes accidentally reads whatever is a popular paperback mystery at the stone (Amongst others.) Yet Oreki stomps Satoshi in Deduction? Well we see both what it feels like when someone less talented works hard but can't keep up with someone that has great talent but doesn't need as much effort and how frustrating when that talented individual doesn't value their gift. Like what happened with the president. WE see in Koichi how her not being able to accept her friends Talent created a wedge in their friendship which is why she wasn't able to talk to her friend in a long time. Satoshi manages to avoid that fate by using expectation to mean he's "given up." It brings a sad meaning to his line "databases can't draw conclusions" he seems happy and bright on the outside, but Oreki states that instead of Rose Colored, he's a "Shocking Pink" in other words he's happy go lucky nature is a counterfeit, compared to Chitanda who is willing to accept her limits and weaknesses and not let it get her down. On paper Satoshi should be seen as an epitome of a Rose Colored Life, he is on the executive committee, multiple clubs, rubs shoulders with (Within the context of the school.) powerful and influential people. Yet its Chitanda that to Oreki is a symbol of the Rose Colored Life that he secretly craves. Satoshi in a previous episode admires both Oreki but he also said he admires Chitanda, the former for his talent and determination that latter for her authenticity. Satoshi works with the executive chairman, and he even used the same trick to get the Classics Club on a certain page (Which was a clue/foreshadowing.) Oreki can't even remember any of these important people's names, yet just like in the Film Arc, Oreki manages to command a certain level of respect from these people without really setting out to do so. Each character in this arc has been experiencing "Hyouka" in the cultural festival. Both the Ice Cream, and each has beared their silent "I Scream." Oreki in this arc did for the student executive president what he did to Chitanda in the first arc, he heard the Silent Cry of Pain no one else could here. Oreki also in the Film arc in public he was a success but in private he failed to solve what mattered by not considering the people element, in this arc that school thinks the Classics Club failed with Jumoji, but in private it was Oreki's finest hour, the first time you could without a doubt call him a master detective, he solved something most people would not be able to do with the info he had. (Unlike previous mysteries.) And he did so by taking into account the lessons he learned from the Film Arc, he learned to think more like Chitanda and try to imagine people's hearts. The President might have gotten the message, but I think the scene was meant to imply he just thought it was a fun prank he did, and didn't hear the Heart of his message. So yeah this is my favorite cultural festival arc in anime.

So on the second episode At the End when Oreki is explaining why he was curious and about him being sensitive its meant as a mirror to Chitanda when she deciding in the Hyouka Arc to ask Satoshi and Mayaka for help. Both instances, with Oreki being curious and motivated for himself, and with Chitanda not wanting others to know about her past, are outside of character but both were motivated by a similar feeling. Chitanda says in Hyouka that how she feels about her Uncle might not matter to her 10 years from now, but its still worth it if it matters now, similarly Oreki states he might never see Ogi again but he still finds value in the concept of trying to understand how another feels and not just taking the "easy way out" and make assumptions when he has the means to go deeper. Chitanda sees despite how different her and Oreki are in many ways they share a core value of seeking truth and understanding others, and that touched her heart, (Which is the same thing Oreki likes about Chitanda even if it annoys him.) And yes this is exact moment Chitanda realizes she's in Love with Oreki. By the way last episode there was some subtext that Irisu feels like a fake person that has lost her authentic self being manipulative to people and she admires and somewhat envies Chitandas authentic spirit, and that's why she told her to forget her advice. Also the looking around while waiting for the newspaper articles in the Library that was some anime original scenes for cute shipping moments. Chitanda picking the book about Dung Beetles over Honey Bees is probably a sign she seems value in things that other people would pass over and find disgusting both in a general sense, and for a certain gloomy energy conversing boy.

For your final thoughts, the President didn't have a fear of failing, he literally just did the story on a lark and didn't put much value in it, a symbol how Oreki doesn't value his own talent and calls it "luck" and it makes everyone else that doesn't have said talent (Ergo Satoshi) Feel even worse.

Jesus... That's some in depth analysis. Maybe I wasn't smart enough for this show. There seems to be much more nuance than I had noticed and when you break it down like that, it's far deeper than I realized.

I have rewatched this series many times and get something new out of it every time, I gave you some cliffnotes. This to me was Kyoani's Magnum Opus.
