Just a friendly reminder: In the next reaction to Hyouka please watch the 11.5 OVA after episode 11 before moving on to 12, It's not on Crunchyroll so you're going to have to go sailing the seven seas or use Funimation to see it.

Let me just say a lot of things in the first episode you think aren't important are what is actually important. Also notice how the director was casting Oreki as the villain and addressing him directly after Oreki got under his skin, and how the Props guy was being cocky to Oreki during his explanation and Oreki was all smug going "I don't know."

Damn so many things I want to point out in the first episode here that was lots of foreshadowing! This is the kinda show that is better on multiple rewatches.

In case you were wondering The Other person Irisu was mentioning that she heard about his deduction skills from besides Chitanda, and "Someone outside the school" was the smoking senpai from episode 3. Also take a guess at who the person "Outside the school" would be that knows about Oreki's detective skills.

Satoshi is the benchwarmer if you didn't catch it.

There is some sad irony to Satsohi's catchphrase "databases cannot draw conclusions" now, its also why he's forced away/not present during many mysteries where he's "database" won't come in handy. Thinking of that notebook as him, is basically the same as saying he has no ability to think critically like the rest of the club.
