Not to be that guy, but there's a reason I don't think Zero is the right place to start. UBW coaches you through the info. Zero assumes you have the knowledge from FSN since you're expected to have read that first

Edit: It is a prequel, but its important to understand what a prequel is. A prequel is a work designed to expand on concepts or ideas created in a preceding work. Within the story it takes place chronologicaly before however its expanding on concepts and ideas on an already existing show/book/etc. As far as Fate Zero. It's an adaptation of the Fate Zero Novel. The Fate Zero novel was written after the FSN Visual Novel was written and was intended to be read once you completed it. Structure wise, FSN involves someone who existed outside of the magic world; being brought into that world and is guided through it; you learn about the world as the MC learns. The Fate Route and Unlimted Blade Works route are very similar during the common route; which the UBW anime adapts so UBW anime does a good job of teaching you. Fate Zero isn't structured that way since narritavely, it assumes you explored that content already.

zero is the prequal but it came out after the fate stay night visual novel and the first fate stay night anime adaption from deen. They did write it expecting the viewer to have read the VN or seen the first adaption. It's fine though, it will just take some time getting adjusted to the lore. Plenty of people started with zero with no problem, myself included.

yeah, but it's working harder not smarter. I think the only reason why this is a conversation is honestly, there are alot of people such as yourself who started out with Fate Zero. Just cause Fate Zero was your first exposure, doesn't mean it's the best way to do it . Had the UBW anime came out first, peoples first exposure would have been UBW and this wouldn't even be a conversation.

Not uppity, simply responding to your statement that this conversation is what makes people not watch. If you don't like the conversation then don't engage in it. As for irrelevance, that is true and it's unfortunate that a subpar experience is perpetuated because the majority of people were exposed to something out of order

Nah it's not a subpar experience. This is just your opinion that you think is facts, just like most watch order purists. Fate zero is far superior anyway so this is a win win.

i feel like it can go both ways. Watching Fate/zero first basically gives you background info on a lot of characters that make more sense in UBW but if you watch UBW first you can look back on fate/zero understanding why they did what they did. i personally watched UBW first but it made fate/zero feel nothing like a info dump with a few extra minor details that i somewhat already knew.

No joke Joe, you totally got this, almost no one watches the first info dumping episodes from any of the fate animes and gets as much as you did from this one. Just keep being invested or more likely interested and it will be a really enjoyable series for you.

This is definitely why the enjoyment of the Fate franchise starts to get a bit diluted... there shouldn't be a conversation of what the "correct" order should be, especially if the differences are so marginal and hotly contested. Instead of just enjoying the journey, people start bickering among themselves, saying things like "you're wrong" or "this is bad".

One thing I do appreciate about the Fate series is that you get to learn (or re-learn) some of the prominent characters and events in religion, history, mythology, and folklore. I know I used to enjoy reading up on some of the characters I've come across in the entire franchise... even making comparisons between real life events and lore versus the fictional characters in Fate.

I take no side in who's right or wrong, and quite frankly, I don't care. But Deen StayNight is basic and Not worth watching. Servants rely on their master mana to fight. The more mana you give the stronger the Servant's power will be. the number at the end of the ep is also a countdown. -269:15

Literally I read the comment and it was like when you play an Assassin's Creed game and climb the eagle eye tower and unlock a chunk of the map. I just unlocked that memory. It is definitely something I knew but completely forgot about 😅😅

In the Crunchyroll fate/zero violence is censored. Netflix version is uncensored.

I cant say much otherways it spoil what happens. They use still frame in one act. Crunchyroll fate/zero is tv version which aired in japan television that why that is censored.

Correction : Dont watch Zero , Stay/Night, Heavens Feel Watch Zero, Unlimited Blade Works (Fate/Stay Night UBW), Heavens Feel otherwise you might watch a mediocre Fate/Stay Night version from Decades Ago which is not a good Adaptation (made by Studio DEEN, NOT UFOTABLE). Dropped the Fate franchise 2 times because I couldnt bear watching the original Adapation which is simply called Fate/Stay Night.
