I really hope Iron Blooded Orphans wins, with Witch of Mercury airing this season, it'd be great so you can get another series to famirialize with Gundam.

Brian Carotenuto

Crossing my fingers🤞 for Knights and Magic when it comes to mecha's this is probably one of the best anime's

statixFEAR

I personally skipped Gundam IBO... dunno why but I dropped the series after 2 episodes. The last Gundam show I actually followed and enjoyed was Gundam Seed and Seed: Destiny... which a lot of the Gundam fandom hated for some reason. And prior to Seed, I enjoyed Gundam Wing. I really hope Witch of Mercury will re-light my love for the Gundam franchise. The first 2 episodes of WoM, to me, has been good, so far, so I'm hoping it remains strong throughout the season.

statixFEAR

I'd be happy if either Knights & Magic or Gurren Lagann win in this poll. Though, I am a bigger fan of the latter series since it's Studio Trigger.

Paragon Goetia

statix Seed has a messy plot due to issues behind development, that and a lot of reused scenes in Destiny are the first turn away for most people. My main issue with that one is not so much the decisions taken during the series but the fact the consequences did not match what happened during its run time. The characters become vindicated for actions that should have serious implications. IBO does not do that, it grounds the consequences within what would actually happen. It also does not hold back on the themes it handles unlike Seed, which as an international viewer, I can say that the way they try to handle degregation falls flat when you've actually seen it in person.

wahninomae

I enjoyed Seed and Destiny as well.. well Seed a lot more. Music production was on point and Mobile Suit design was great. The only problem that particular series had was that the recycled stock footage and the characters were bland. Iron-Blooded Orphans was really good and loved the concept of beam weapon being almost nonexistent.

Paragon Goetia

If anything I do enjoy the designs of the series, my first real grades were the Strike Freedom and Justice afterall. And the main character, Kira, was a pretty good lead all things considered.

bobo

TBH I don't think IBO is considered a good gundam series to the audience new to gundam. Okada Mari is just not the type of writer who can handle a gundam story, it starts very well, but she doesn't know how to end it properly.

Knighthammer

Knights and Magic is a fun series and unlike a lot of mecha is not based in the future

Paragon Goetia

bobo, the fact one doesnt get a happy ending with roses is not an indication for a bad series. All things happened as they had been set up. Every foolish choice and decision made sense for who the characters were. If we are talking about audience recommendations, it, 00 and Thundervolt tend to be at the top for new entries. By all means, it is one of the most Gundam shows if you consider the original, Zeta and Chars Counter Attack. Wing, 00, and as such romantacise a lot of what Gundam tried not to do so originally. It uses Deus Ex machina implications in ocassions when it probably shouldnt. All shows have something to make them unique but I think you are extremely wrong about IBO if you havent seen the original trilogy.

Brian Carotenuto

Now we all have to admit out of all the Gundams series the best one is the original the very 1st the 2nd best is G Gundam..... Burning Fingers 🔥🖐 baby

bobo

I'm not talking about the happy ending, I'm talking about what lead to the ending is problematic. They make some of the scene meant to be sad very funny, for example, the famous freesia scene. I'm satisfied with the ending and I don't think iit's bad. But in order to have an ending like that, they did so many dumb decisions to achieve it, and they even denial the meaning of a gundam at the end. For most of the gundam shows, they always have some reasons to use mobile suits instead of spaming missles from distant. If you have a weapon which can land a precise instant hit from outer space to earth, why do you need a gundam then.

Paragon Goetia

Well that goes into spoiler territory and since this show might get picked all I can say is that making a bit of research on the origin of the gundam frame and the thing you were talking about will clarify the why and how. I would spell it outright but rn I dont want to spoil it.

bobo

Nope, nothing is explained, the weapon is literally the representation of "we don't know how to do this, let's just create something from nowhere."

Paragon Goetia

It is explained on the episode it first appears and the certain machine arc. I really am being vague to not enter into spoilers but it is outright stated as to their use and how it relates to the Gundam development.

bobo

Back to the beginning, if you have a weapon that every ms can use, recharge super fast, amazing destructive power, can be fire from a super long distance, why do you need a gundam in a gundam show?

Paragon Goetia

Its not effective at hitting targets, it came before the Gundam. Gundams were made to face them and utilize said weapon. The unit we see is 300 years after their invention. The reason it works well is firing squads trying to overwhelm, however said old machine moved way too quickly and could repair damage from that weapon. In a battle of attrition to compete in speed, reaction speed, strenght, durability and sources of energy, the Gundam was born. The reason they are accurate in that 1 ocassion was due to a planned ambush and the pilots intentionally taking all the attention while having to remain in a certain area. I hope that makes it clear, if not the wiki can say all without having to with hold info.

bobo

All these info are based on what the writter think, but not based on what it really is. These explanation won't be a valid statement to counter that they just create something unreasonable from nowhere at the end of the show to achieve their goal. What I'm complaining is they could do it better, the writter is great love, romance writter, not meant to be a good gundam show writter.

Paragon Goetia

No, its from the show, the two mechanics books and the radio station segments. Its official material.

bobo

Episode 48 is a better example to tell they are just trying to finish their job instead of creating a good story. The end of episode 48, all we got is some nobody only appears in the last 3 episodes, he suddenly appears, and suddenly died. No context, no story, only serve the purpose of a tool to kill. I'm not sure if you have read the writter's interview, it's really disapointing, but it tells the reason behind everything.

Paragon Goetia

So you just brushed aside everything I said. Oh, you're one of those, Ill just move ahead then, because I believe I also spoke with you before in YT, same attitude. Edit: Send me the link of the interview I want to read it if possible.

SharkMessiah101

HOnestly all three are amazing, you should keep the lossing 2 in mind for the future. Also since Knights and Magic and Gurren are so freaking close together you might wanna think about doing them back to back. Knights and magic is 13 episodes while Gurren is 27 so they arent too long and could be done back to back

Yoel Reyes

Damn gurren lagann is losing? feelsbadman

bobo

Most of the interview are paper based, there is one in great mechanic g 2017. The only one I can find online is this, and this happens before season 2. https://natalie.mu/comic/pp/g-tekketsu

Paragon Goetia

I just read it all, besides a halt in production before season 1 and the addition of Karta last minute before the series began full development. It seems the thing they were worried about was Kartas fate. It seems development was fine and the team was given as much creative liberty as they wanted on character design. The one thing that got changed by Okada I believe was making the ending less dark I have no idea of what development issue you said was there.

I was probably expecting these results. Gurren Lagann is 10 years older than K&M. I'm hoping it gets another shot in the next round of mech shows you'll be reacting to

FreshestAnime

So far its gotten a shot both times. I imagine after K&M Gurren Lagann will win and then IBO.
