The books do a better job of explaining it than this show has, but the roses and sparkle effect that Cayna's son Skargo uses is actual magic, and literally causes that effect to be visible. Cayna HATES it, and when her grandson offers her a high class room for her to stay in he uses it also for a moment of flashy display. Between that, coupled with the surprise of finding out she's a grandmother, and insulting 'normal' inns where she's met people she likes and has had a good time, she loses her cool.

I think the mother has to be blamed here. She knew how she would react to that kind of treatment cough* Skargo cough* Could have explained how to greet and treat her via that mail she delivered. She did act very immaturely especially with that "creep" comment, which didn't sit well with me. Also agree with the skill and talent tangent. No talent and or skill so feels bad man. Japanese dub vs English dub is a weird thing for me. I'm okay with most English dub I consumed as a child eg. Pokemon, Digimon, Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Deathnote, FMA, etc.. But after getting a taste of Japanese dub it's very hard to try English dub as it would just make me cringe when hearing the dialogue. I don't how or why I feel that way but it is what it is. Could also just be VA selection and voice not fitting well with the character as I've probably had prior exposure to the JP one.

08:02 In the Crunchyroll subtitles it was translated as "that fool" instead of "that creep". Still mean, but better than creep.

Ohhh so the grandson also did a little flashy spell ok. That makes sense. Combining that with the insult to inns and I get it

Low key I think it is the dialogue being very Japanese but said by English voices. That might explain it a lot.

Generally speaking I don't have a preference for English or Japanese when watching Anime. There are times when I'm doing something that I will play an anime that is dubbed, so there is a benefit to them in that regard. However, as a matter of principle, I dislike snobs. And before people claim that I'm being unfair, here's the literal definition of the word: Snob a person who believes that their tastes in a particular area are superior to those of other people.

FreshestAnime

agreed. I see dubs as great because they allow for people, who dislike reading subtitles and would otherwise not watch anime, a means of watching anime. For me, the goal is to normalize anime.

i gotta watch english dub cause i cant keep up with reading and also watching what is going on. so i usually watch the eng dubbed versions first and then watch a reactor, but when i do i consider like im watching with a friend and seeing their reaction and what they think about it
