The writer has side stories at the end of each book to show different points of view since the story is normally first person. With that said I think the first one is better. The second one should have been told from Tulli's point of view Myne's sister. Missing Tulli's internal dialogue removes a lot of what the side story was supposed to convey. Which was mostly the shock of how well Myne blends in with the upper crust. The first one it wasn't that they were protecting Myne but that they were on guard to a strange man. When they are dressed up they are suspiscious that some high class person is slumming in their area. While when he's the farmer he's below them not having citizenship and being a poor farmer. That's why Lutz's mom said people would think he was a robber. Also that's why the second one fails the first one gets the point across that it's hard for the nobles to find info on Myne. The second one is supposed to show how amazing it is for Myne and by extension Lutz is amazing for integrating into high society. They can speak merchant greetings (which aren't in the anime) she looks right, she negotiates with them as an equal etc. For the first time Tulli feels a bit inferior to her sister. Both her and her mother feel out of place just walking the streets in that area. In the end her sister made more in a single moment then they might make their whole lives. Sorry I feel like I say a bunch about bookworm. It's one of my favorite novels.

In Eckhart's defense, the sanitation system in the lower city is non existent. Everyone just dumps their poop in the streets. The entire lower city wreaks of sewage. It would take some getting used to for anyone.

Well said, thank you for the comment. It puts this into perspective. I got the general idea of the second part of the OVA but you’re right, seeing it from another perspective would have probably been even better.

In fact one of Myne's first comments when she first goes outside at the start of the story is that it stinks and she wants something to block the smell. It's also implied that part of the reason she fainted in the first episode was due to the absolute horrible smell of the market.
