This plot point of fallen Yoitsu is gradually rolling out throughout the season in the newer adaptation. Lawrence heard about this from a storyteller (but we don't know what he heard) in a earlier episode. Then it's fully revealed that he knew about the fallen Yoitsu story during this arc, while still believing Holo and him will continue this journey to Yoitsu, and later he decided to look for more details in the town where people with certain knowledge refuged. He got more information about Yoitsu from the chronologist Diana and didn't inform Holo in a proper time before she reads the letter. There is a difference of plot points in two adaptations that Lawrence knew about the fallen Yoitsu long before he met Holo, and it's revealed that he knew about this in the beginning of the original novel or only in the season 2 of the original adaptation, whereas the newer adaptation chose to roll out this plot points in one of the earlier episode in the narrative after Lawrence has met Holo and then this plot point got revealed during the current arc.
