having been in similar situations before, the appeal for Mahiru is validation of her self worth. whole show has set up her history of doubting herself and kano's mom clearly values the same artistic vision as kano. in mahiru's mind, she has 2 people praising her art for the same reasons and she thinks she can juggle both (one wanting to push her to further heights than the other).
