For the most part I've been pretty happy with my renders. They were kind of random, but overall they were ok. Sure, they could've been better but they could've been a lot worse as well. I've seen some cringe worthy renders out there... That said, I felt like I needed a unified art direction going forward. What I've decided on is to break renders down into two categories. Scene renders and everything else. Super simple.

No More Faces

Well, no more faces for everybody but dope. RPG maker has this thing where you can show faces in the dialogue box, now with names overhead, as a basic setting. Most RPG maker games use this, you know what I'm talking about. Nothing wrong with it, except, when it comes to Daz... it kind of sucks. Or to be specific, Daz renders look like shit when small. The smaller they get, the shittier they look. I tried to cartoon/anime style the faces in various ways but I never got a result I was happy with. So I'm just going to throw them away.

Instead, what I'll be doing is rendering out various busts for each character. Whenever a character talks you'll get a full bust instead of a tiny square head. For now I only have 8 poses but as I run into situation where I need more I'll add more. Dope doesn't get busts but he'll get a larger portrait that'll show at the bottom left whenever he speaks for each bust other characters get. I feel like this looks better and those busts are fairly small and render pretty fast. A win win as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes there won't be a rendered background and I'll use what's shown in RPG maker, that's why I gave an example of both. This is for the non scenes though, for the scenes...

It's all about the POV

After thinking about it, I've decided to render all of the scenes in 1st person perspective. I like 3rd person and there is a place for it, but nobody really gives a fuck how Dope looks. When I play games like this, I also prefer to look at the scenes from 1st person perspective so that's the route I've decided to take. There will be some 3rd person renders mixed in, some things like fight sequences and some sex positions might look better in 3rd person, but most of the scene renders will be 1st person POV. I haven't actually done any yet but I'll post some previews when I do.

That's pretty much it as far as art direction goes. Not much to say about it otherwise. I'll still be including animations and things but for starters I'll be focusing on the simple stuff. Uhhhh, yeah, that's it. Stay tuned for more details!
