I agree, I think this episode is a huge breakthrough for them! Thinking of how far they’ve come with how comfortable they are with one another just makes me so happy 🥺 This is the only show that can make me squeal over one hug in 21 episodes 😂 I can’t call myself a proper shameless WGM apologist without also sharing some of the theories this episode started about TaEun (disclaimer: this is, of course, just fan speculation, not trying to be an overly weird shipper, take with a grain of salt, etc etc) With the whispered confession, viewers immediately zeroed in on a couple details that lots of people took as evidence of a real off-screen relationship. Right before he leaned in to whisper to her, Taemin randomly kissed his rosary bracelet. When Naeun replied “Me too,” she raised her hand where he could see it and twisted her rosary ring. Considering their shared faith and Taem’s gift of a rosary bracelet to her both being major sentimental factors in their relationship, some fans theorized that these actions were like little signals to each other. It’s been a while since I last watched the later episodes, but I believe they do make a noticeable habit throughout the rest of their season of touching either their bracelets or rings whenever they are discussing their feelings for each other. Could it be a signal of “this isn’t just for the show, I really mean what I’m saying”? Who knows, but it’s a cute theory 🥰
