Enjoy the next page of my short Narbonic story "The Problem of Evil." Though most of the moral philosophers in this story are real, Ambrose and his quotation are from Arthur Machen's "The White People," one of my favorite horror stories.

I would posit that this entire argument is based on a faulty premise, to whit: the secret agent claims that Helen is not truly evil, just in opposition to good, but we have no evidence that he is even "good" in the first place. I believe this argument cannot continue unless he provides evidence of his own morality.

I would like to note that reading “The White People” aloud is INTENSELY difficult. Paragraph breaks, please!
