Recently, Patreon announced a rather controversial change to their fee schedule that, among other things, shifted much of the burden of paying their operating fees onto you, our patrons.  Shaenon and I were in the midst of discussion on the issue and were preparing a statement when--thankfully!--Patreon announced they were rolling back the proposed changes.  For now, nothing has changed with your pledge distribution ratio.  Shaenon and I are monitoring the situation and will keep you all posted.  As ever, thank each and every one of you so much for supporting our creative endeavors.

Thank you! I would've kept supporting you regardless, though I might have found some other way to do it if Patreon hadn't backed down. I love your work.

I had seen that. I was just going to accept it. The way I see it, the important thing is that the money keeps going to the creators, but someone has to pay the overhead for the website and the fees the banks charge for each transaction. I'd rather see that cost coming out up front than have them take it out of what Shaenon, Jeff and the others get. That way, I know how much I'm giving my creators and how much I'm paying Patreon to give it to them. I can, however, see why the move would be controversial.

Thanks for sticking with us! We're researching other ways that this model might work just in case future changes make Patreon a nonviable choice. Hopefully we won't need them!

Yeah, something has to go towards keeping the lights on at the company providing the service. I think it was controversial because some pledge tiers on the lower end saw a disproportionate amount of their pledge going to Patreon instead of to the artists they came to support.
