     I've wanted to get into children's books for a long time. I've written several, and made dummies (mock-ups to show what the final product would look like) for them, but it's hard to find the time to finish sample illustrations and put together submission packages for agents and publishers. Here's a drawing that gave me the idea for one of my books, The Dancing Gargoyle. (I think someone here owns the original...?) The second pic is a color sketch I just did, to serve as a guide during the painting process. Even if I hadn't decided to use this piece as a sample illustration, it would still be one of my favorites. It has three of my favorite things: gargoyles, "golden hour" lighting, and dark humor.
