Paris Doesn't Like Spiders (Patreon)
Content
Here's a good example of the limitations of the medium. This page plays okay, but not great. To make maximum use of space, I've used different clothing, settings, and "thought balloon"-shaped panel borders to communicate that Paris is flashing back to instances when his fear of spiders was obvious (and should have been remembered by Abbey). Not ideal, but workable. However, coming out of the flashbacks, there ideally should be at least one panel of just Paris, staring incredulously at Abbey, to provide a beat before he responds. But I couldn't make the panel composition work, and I didn't want to go into a second page for just that, so I had to compromise. Not a big deal; just a window into the mechanics of visual storytelling within a constrained format. (I should note that working online does allow for solutions like simply extending the bottom of the page, but as I intend to publish these pages in physical form once there's enough material, I'm sticking to standard comic page proportions.)
