As we didn't share the process for the first Hair Salon illustration, I thought it would be nice to make a compilation of sketches and WIP pictures now that we have uploaded the Second Part.

The initial idea came from browsing references for other illustrations. In this case, it was All Dolled Up, Tc has a lot of erotic captions stored away (It's true. They helped to start me writing! - Tc) and a couple of them involved brainwashing via those retro style hair dryers which I found a fun concept to play with. Personally, I'm obsessed with vintage fashion (as much as I love the sleek futuristic/cyberpunk stylings, too) so it was wonderful diving through the 1940s photographs of hairstyles, clothing and decoration. The two concepts combine neatly into this retro-futurism.

The rest of the process is more or less the usual one. We had some discussions about the original sketches because we had different visions of the composition and what we wanted to express with it (the first sketch was discarded, although we may use that composition for something else in the future). After that, it all came smoothly, just some ink on paper and then digital colours, some lighting and finally the text bubbles and these illustrations were finished.
