Hello my wonderful patrons. I have changed the payment method back to per chapter payment.

I did this because writing is going way slower than I anticipated, and because I've recently been heavily rewriting the initial two chapters rather than writing any any one, meaning it would be a while since I published anything new related to Zenith of Sorcery. Thus, for the sake of my own peace of mind and in order not to mislead people, I've returned to the old method of payment. That is, me charging people only when I actually finish a chapter.

It is somewhat unfortunate this switch to monthly payment has failed, but oh well. I might revisit the idea at some point in the future, but for now I feel better without having to worry I'm charging my patrons for nothing.

My current plan is to try and finish the first four chapters by the end of the year, and then start posting the story on Royal Road and Fictionpress. But I cannot guarantee that, since I will probably be rewriting things a few more times before I'm done. When I started MoL, I rewrote the beginning chapters two whole times before I was satisfied. I'm not sure why I though Zenith of Sorcery would be any different, in retrospect...

As usual, thank you all for your patience and support. Still no Zenith chapters, obviously, and I've been too busy with rewriting Zenith chapters, editing MoL for publication, and work obligations to do much worldbuilding.

I will continue making monthly posts here, at least, to keep you all updated on development.

*increases payment* If it means recapturing any of the magic of MoL with this you take all the time you need.

Galavantes

Don't stress about the payment structure. We're all here to support you.

Armo

Alright! Don’t worry about us and just concentrate on having a good time, writing or not. You’re not charging us for anything you aren’t producing anymore either way. I’d also rather have sparser updates if there isn’t anything new to read and I am not being charged.

I'm sure I'm not alone on this. But I hope patreon adds and option to allow both options (enabled by the creator). I, for example, would like to keep on going with the monthly payment, while others would probably like per post payment. It doesn't really matter if there are that many chapters are coming out.. They will eventually arrive and there's no pressure. I'd just like to support the author of my favourite book, in their good, and maybe not as good days.

EndlessTurtle

Thanks for the update, personally I'm fine with either structure, but if this method makes you feel less under pressure then that's good. I just hope you're having good time writing and enjoy yourself while you write the story you're happy with.

Yshua

I’d rather stay monthly, as long as you’re still working I can wait. Good things take time.

ffs Doma, are you American? The Patreon model is the opposite of mercantile, we don't want to buy your chapters at all! We want to give you money monthly so you continue to produce at your own pace!

Janders

Nice, thank you. I prefer it this way

I was always was of the opinion, that Patreon charges for artist's time not being spent on surviving or worrying about tomorrow. It's not a transaction. It's trust manifested. And I doubt, that many here expected writing to be exactly swift or easy process. But a peace of mind isn't something you can be forced into... If this variant works best for you, then okay. Have fun with your writing and until next update - take care!

I understand your point, but I definitely feel the pressure to deliver something when I'm accepting money from people. It's just in my nature to do so. I know that lots of people would be fine to continue supporting me even if I took another 6 months to deliver anything, but it would make me feel... uncomfortable. Every time I sat down to play Factorio or watch a youtube video or whatever, there would be a thought in the back of my head that I'm wasting time I could spend writing. Sometimes its useful - concrete deadlines help me finish chapters faster, I've found - but in this case I can't predict how long it will take me to have the beginning ready, so I want to take my time and mull things over. Basically, your arguments make perfect sense, and I agree its not wrong for a writer to simply switch to monthly payments and then take as long as they need to finish writing - nobody is forced to donate to patreon, and they can stop paying at any time - but I'm kind of weird and I'd rather not do this.

I'm still very much enjoying the writing, no need to worry about that. But yeah, I don't want to be pressured to finish the chapters as soon as possible right now, so this is the best solution.

That's certainly an interesting idea. Definitely something I'd be in favor of. In any case, I got five months of support while the monthly payment lasted, so as far as I'm concerned the first four chapters are more than paid for. Though I'll still make the eventual publish date a paid post, because I can be greedy like that. :)

Thanks. I often hear about how demanding and unreasonable a lot of fandoms are towards creators, so it's always a bit of a pleasant surprise to see how understanding my fans are about my delays and procrastination and whatnot. Thank you for the support and I promise I will try to make the wait worth it in the end.

Zagig

I prefer to give you more support, but I suppose I can wait.

DiabolicalGenius

Well, I'm okay either way. If you feel this is the way that suits you best personally, then I'm not going to claim I know you better, do what you think will let you work your best. Let's be frank, there isn't anyone who doesn't want a good novel sooner rather than later. But I'd much rather have a good novel later than a rushed inferior novel sooner, so take the time you need.

Doodlyboy15

Oooh I would be proud to have MoL on my shelf. No worries man, take care of yourself.

Either way works, whichever helps you is why im giving on here. I just look forward to the content you create.

BramBora

Rewrite the 1st couple chapters as much as you feel appropriate. They are very important for the story after all. Also I think you could do better. They were good, but I think you can still do better.

JT

Im hearing that if you dont post enough chapters at the start on royal road you're penalized. There's some type or word count penalty.

JT

Another author i follow had a recent poll for patreons about it. An admin had contacted him and said he had too many reviews for the word count. And he'd be penalized from hitting trending unless he fixed it. It was https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/47557/underland

esteban albo

Okay , no worries ,first chapters are very important. Factorio is a great game too xD

"Too many reviews for the word count", the things some people can be unhappy with...

David Ford

I would bet its a measure against paid reviews. it would normally be a bit fishy to see a hundred 5* reviews on a 10 page story

> When I started MoL, I rewrote the beginning chapters two whole times before I was satisfied And I think that great foundation might have had something to do with the success! So no worries and please take your time. Cheers
