So, I'm clearly not going to be able to finish the story by the end of the year. I thought I would write a lot more during the holidays, but I basically wrote nothing at all last week. However, I don't want to keep dragging this out for much longer, so I'm setting a concrete deadline for the next target: 26th of January 2020. This should be more than enough time to finally finish this, but the actual concrete deadline should motivate me to stop being lazy and actually write.

Sorry for another delay, but anyone who waited this long will probably have enough patience to wait one more month. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.

No problem, man. Happy New Year! Show them words, what you're made of!

Anonymous

What are your plans after this story is finished?

Random Information

No! That's too long. I'm going on strike! I refuse to read any more ... Actually as long as you don't decide to change your name to George Martin I'll look forward to eventually reading the conclusion.

Anonymous

Awesome! It's good to have something to look forward to.

Anonymous

I'm telling you, if you don't release it by Jan 26... I'll wait more, because it's a great story. Happy end of the year stuff!

Armo

The fact that writing nothing this week is noteworthy means you wrote something in the preceding weeks. I like that implication. Take all the time you need.

Anonymous

Oh, no, this gives me enough time to read the whole story again from the beginning, woe is me~

Anonymous

Man, don't beat yourself over some delays. What you've created is already a league above most other books, take all the time you need.

Jeff091

don't worry, i will wait, i have waited longer for chapter from less good storys hell, i think i have waited longer for chapter from this story

Anonymous

Glad to see your update. Little worried that you have set a deadline to a novel you took 8 years to write. This is your work, imagination and world. As many have said take your time. Nobody cares of these delays. All they care is for you to end the amazing story really well. I don't know what you mean by 'being lazy'. If you're going through something specific, share it with us. Don't worry if it's a common problem and one should be able to handle it themselves. Share it with us. Perhaps we could help. Sorry for a long message. Happy new year!

1. I intend to look into publishing the story through more traditional channels, in book form. Maybe even physical form. 2. I will continue writing. I have other story ideas in mind. I may also write a sequel story for MoL, though this may take some time.

nobody103

It would be quite embarrasing to get stuck here like GRRM did with his story, considering how much less I have left to write compared to him. George has at least two (realistically more) books he needs to write in order to finish his magnum opus. Can't imagine how demoralizing that must be...

nobody103

It's pushing it by now, but I think there was a chapter from way early into the story that took several months to write. It was one of the reasons why people started pestering me to start including target dates and all.

nobody103

Happy new year, too. And I deliberately put pressure on myself by setting the target date, so it's fine. I'm using it as a tool to motivate myself. It worked before and it will hopefully work now.

Can’t wait! I’m sure it’ll be awesome!

I just discovered the story a week ago, so finding out it's so close to completion is phenomenal. Thank you for crafting such an imaginative world!

Johny Woller Skovdal

Happy new years. All thats important to me is having A conclusion. So good to know you're planning on it. Author of Wheel of Time died before writing 30+ books he had planned for the story. King Killer Chronicles still has the 3rd and final book missing for years. So while waiting I'm enjoying The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound, and just looking forward to seeing a notification eventually. Creativity is hard and you're doing awesome. Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to the conclusion! :)

Johny Woller Skovdal

Oh, and I've also seen lost, so I've also seen how badly it CAN be blundered, so please make sure you stick true to the story rather than delivering something you're not proud of. Boy that ending sucked... -.-

Matthew M

Glad it's reaching a conclusion, disappointed it's reaching a conclusion. Bit conflicting, but I can't wait to read it.

Faren

Happy New Years

nobody103

Likewise. It would have been even happier if I had finished the story last year, but overall I can't complain. Happy new years.

Anonymous

Can't say i'm happy about it, but I am glad to see you don't want to rush things :)

Anonymous

You know the saying "old habits die hard"? Well, even though I know I shouldn't expect the update before the deadline you set for yourself, I can't stop but keep refreshing this page once a day.. You should really be proud of the story you managed to write over these last few years, other than KKC I don't think I ever anticipated a continuation for a story so much

Anonymous

I've got some experience editing documents and I also have a fast turnaround time (~1 day). If you'd like, I would be happy to go over your work before you post to help it be the best it can be. For this I would work for free since I like what you're writing. If you're interested, send me a DM, or feel free to ignore. Either way, looking forward to the update!

nobody103

Thanks for the offer, but I'll continue using the same system as I have until now... somewhat suboptimal as it may be. It's nothing personal but I don't want to experiment this close to the ending.

Hi! Might not be on topic but is the country spelled ‘Abnazia’ or ‘Abnasia’? In chapter 4 on RR it’s spelled with an ‘s’ but on the map from the wiki its with a ‘z’. https://mother-of-learning.fandom.com/wiki/Maps?file=Altazia_political_outline_by_dodo_ptica-d9ihuq2.png

nobody103

Abnazia, with a 'z'. I guess I missspelled it in chapter 4, then. I'll add it to the list of typos.

Tom

After you finish mother of learning will your next story be another mage character fantasy (I really hope so as I love this genre) or something totally different? Any ideas what it will be about or you still don’t know/haven’t decided yet?

nobody103

I've narrowed down the ideas to one of four things: a story about an archmage-level character in a different fantasy setting, a story about a literal NPC transported into a fantasy world, a supernatural story in a modern setting, or LitRPG inspired fic. I still haven't decided which one to pick. I need to do some test chapters, and I don't want to start doing those until MoL is finished.

Shawn Liu

Big fan of litrpg personally. Well, well conceived litrpg, which im sure youll do. Not that my vote counts for much lol

Anonymous

If you decide to go the LitRPG route, may I introduce you to what I call a "monumental system" as opposed to the "conventional system"? But first: What is a "conventional system"? What I call a "conventional system" is one with levels and attribute points that don't make a big difference. Usually has classes. Its pitfalls are that it invites creating meaningless powerups (i.e. numbers go up but from the stories view point the status quo is maintained) and feels "gamey" instead of like a lived in world. Furthermore this system invites creating only combat and "special" job classes but no mundane classes because of its videogame inspiration. Of course this system isn't necessarily bad, it's just tempting to go bad. Reference material on how to execute this system well is "The Completionist Chronicles". Now on to the "monumental system". I encountered a "monumental system" the first time in my favourite LitRPG series "The Wraith's Haunt" (which is also my recommended reference material if the "my favourite" didn't give it away). A "monumental system" is defined by the weight of each attribute point and ability gained. Each point/ability changes the status quo. Usually without levels. Classes are less restrictive or don't exist. I think this is inspired by Pen&Paper RPGs but I don't know because I never had the fortune of having someone to play with. :Ü™

nobody103

I'm not sure what the system I have in mind would count as, based on what you said. It has levels, but they are tied to the Infinite Dungeon that serves as the main plot device of the story, so it's not just some numbers going up. Getting a level up doesn't give one stat points, it just gives you more HP/MP and some other indirect benefits. As for classes, they only come into play later in the story and are definitely in the 'less restrictive' category, since they make certain skills easier to train but don't stop, for instance, a swordsman from training in fire magic and archery on the side. It's just that a fire mage or an archer will advance faster in their chosen field than in the one that has nothing to do with their class. I'm also toying with the idea that they give a single unique class ability or a small number of them, to make them matter a little more. It's not exactly 'every point counts', but most points are gained by doing things rather than simply pressing a button on level gain. And non-combat roles are very much possible, but the Infinite Dungeon is dangerous so there is a need to have at least some combat ability to progress in levels and power.

Good luck over the next ten days!

Shawn Liu

What is infinite dungeon? A quick google search leads to various games.

nobody103

An original creation inspired by various roguelikes. A seperate dimension where the protagonist of said theoretical LitRPG fic must venture if he wants to grow in levels and power, filled with monsters, traps, puzzles, exotic environments, treasure, and magic. 'Infinite' because it periodically shifts into radically different configurations, and has a different layout for every person that enters, not because it is spatially infinite. In a real computer game, it would be procedurally generated in some fashion.

Shawn Liu

sorry, I misread your comment and assumed Infinite dungeon was a pre-existing story that your litrpg system would feel similar to. That's a great concept though, I'm doubly interested in your litrpg story now!

Spark

I would very much like a litrpg one because I'd like to see how you will avoid the typical pitfalls the genre introduce :P

EnigmaticOne

Idk about litrpgs I'm starting to think they can't be pulled off successfully. Of course whatever you go for I'm a fan. I'll be reading no matter what.

Anonymous

You are so lucky. 😂 I've been reading this book since 2014 and other's have been reading since 2011! Then again, I'm glad I've had these chapters to look forward to every three weeks for so many years.

Anonymous

@Domagoj Does that mean an MoL spin-off is not part of the plan?

Sebastian Viller

*salivates in Russian* скоро...

Anonymous

It's time to re-read!

Anonymous

How's it going, here?

Searcher

Regardless of how or when the story ends, I just want to say I've really enjoyed it so far.

Anonymous

Good point. I'm going to at least reread the previous chapter! 😄

Armo

Thank you, Domagoj, for all the work you’ve put into the story.

Bert Peeters

Hey even if it isnt up to your standards you can always do a revision later many light novels do this when they get there official release

nobody103

You're welcome. I feel rather bad for making people wait so long for the ending, but thankfully I have an awesomely patient readership so I will still have people checking up the eventual update. All ten of them! :)

nobody103

Considering how often I privately rage about video games treating costumers as unpaid beta testers, I'd be a massive hypocrite if I did the same but in novel form, ha ha. I mean, I definitely intend to go through the story after it's done and do an editing spree and such, but that's no excuse to push out rushed work to first readers.

Anonymous

I don't think many people had noticed this comment, yet. If I understood you correctly: not 3, not 4 but 10 chapters?! Really?!!!

nobody103

Err, no. I meant 10 people. I was basically making a self-depreciating joke that I'll lose all but a handful of readers by the time I finished the story.

Sebastian Viller

I love you for this, thank f*ck you're actually releasing finished, fully-tested content.
