I hated Damon so much. Why can’t he be good without Elena. Why can’t he be his best for Stefan? For Bonbon? So selfish. Poor Bonnie. Thank god Stefan woke him up so everyone can see each other again. The seasonal finale to this one is one of my favorites. I really like the next few episodes. Excited to see your reaction 🙂

I love Damon but this was a stupid decision. Poor Bonnie and poor Stefan.

I don't think Damon's choice was any more selfish than Stefan's pushing him to not make it. Stefan is the reason Damon ended up in the phoenix stone -- Stefan insisting on his vendetta against Julian, even after Damon told him it was too dangerous. Stefan and Valerie kidnapped Mary Louise, Damon had nothing to do with it, but Nora came after Damon anyway. Damon spent three months in hell because of that. Since he got out of the stone, Damon has still been in hell. The "phoenix stone hangover" tricked him into thinking he'd killed Elena, and his attempts since then to try to make things right almost got both Bonnie and Stefan killed. His wanting to desiccate until Elena wakes up isn't just about that he can't be good without Elena, because he's been making the right choices based on the information he's had available to him, they've just been backfiring on him, and he doesn't want anyone else he cares about getting hurt. Since the phoenix stone is all about punishing vampires, he has good reason to believe that, once he has the cure, the phoenix stone hangover will stop. He's doing what he's always done -- putting the lives of the people he loved over their feelings for him. Just like when he told Stefan he'd make choices to keep Elena alive even if she hated him for it, that's what he's doing here. He'd rather have Bonnie be alive and hating him than have her end up dead because of something he did. I think Bonnie ending up in the hospital because of him is what made him decide to take himself out of the equation, and Stefan nearly dying because Damon was trying to save him just reinforced it.
